Are Natural and organic Toddler Food items Dishes Worth The Cost?

Organic foods and "going green" are getting a lot of attention lately - especially when it comes to babies. But those foods cost more, and sometimes require special preparation. Is it really worth all the trouble to use special foods and find organic baby food recipes?

Feeding your baby natural, pesticide free foods is a good idea. Wholesome organic baby food recipes are a great idea, too. But special recipes aren't always needed. In fact, you can usually find standard baby food recipes and simply substitute organic ingredients!

ORGANIC BABY FOOD

Find several baby food recipes you're interested in. Go through the recipes and make a list of the ingredients you'll need. Then go to the store and check the organic produce section to get the produce you need. Check the meat department for organic meats - they're getting easier to find. You can also probably find organic beans and other foods canned or dried - right in your local grocery store.

Are Natural and organic Toddler Food items Dishes Worth The Cost?

Another option is to head to your local farmer's market. You can often find organic and local produce. This is what makes things really worth it for your baby - you can ask farmers how they're raising their produce and how they're raising their livestock. Then you know you're getting quality food and you're supporting your local economy.

Take your ingredients home and follow your recipe. Just substitute the organic ingredients for the normal ingredients. Your recipe will usually come out just fine. Do note that organic produce is often smaller than conventional produce, which has been grown with lots of chemicals to make it bigger. So you may need to buy a little more organic produce or adjust other recipe ingredients for the smaller size.

Having said all of the above, there are times when organic baby food recipes are worth the trouble of finding them. Organic recipes are more likely to incorporate a wide range of ingredients. Standard baby food recipes tend to be pretty bland, as well.

If you want to use ingredients that aren't often used in baby food recipes - lemon, lime, parsnips, lamb, or venison are some examples - organic recipes may be just what you're looking for. Organic baby food chefs are famous for going beyond pureed carrots and blended chicken noodle soup to provide your baby with a truly tasty recipe.

If you're cooking your food with local meats that have been raised on pasture (grass fed) the meat will be leaner than grocery store meat. Even organic grocery store meat is often raised in a feed lot on a heavy grain diet. Cattle isn't made to eat grain (and chickens are not supposed to eat a vegetarian diet - they eat grubs and insects). These diets make the animals fat... even if the grain or vegetarian feed is organic. So if you are able to get meat from a farm that raises their cattle on pasture without grains you will find that the meat is a lot leaner. An organic baby food recipe may cover how to cook leaner meats (or smaller vegetables). If it doesn't, just adjust the recipe to use a little lower heat for a slightly longer period of time.

Organic baby food recipes are not really required to make your own baby food - it's not hard to do at all, and organic ingredients can be substituted for conventional ones. But organic recipes may cover ingredients that regular recipes do not. They may also have tips for cooking organic produce and grass-fed meats that you won't find in regular recipes. If you're looking for a wide range of nutrient-dense recipes, find an organic baby food cookbook - it will be worth it.

Organic and natural Child Meal - An Intro

What is Organic Baby Food?

What makes something organic and what makes it better for you?

ORGANIC BABY FOOD

Well basically, Organic food and organic baby food is any food that is made or grown without synthetic (chemical) materials being used during growth, processing & production. Any foods, be it fruits, vegetables, grains or even packaged or restaurant foods can be organic as long as no chemicals, artificial additives or any other artificial ingredients are added to the food. Including no chemical pesticides, herbicides or fungicides are used during growth of fresh produce.

Organic and natural Child Meal - An Intro

Actually until last century, almost all food was organic. Think about it - Only after the mass production and mass use of chemical pesticides, preservatives and other additives for use in foods (around the 1940's) did ANY food become non-organic. - So 'Organic' is not really a new trend, just a going back to the way nature intended us to eat food and the way our grandparents and their parents used to eat food.

The big thing to remember about organic foods is not so much what IS in the food but what ISN'T.

You don't really buy Organic baby Foods because they have more of any particular vitamin or mineral or nutritional value. (Although often they do contain higher levels of nutrients etc)

The main reason to choose organic baby foods is because they contain NO NASTY STUFF like the pesticides, herbicides & fungicides as well as chemical preservatives & additives like chemical sweeteners, colors or flavors or stabilizers etc. These can be really dangerous & have serious heath repercussions if we consume them (especially babies!).

Have you heard rumors about Organics being a big con and "no better" - Well that information is simply propaganda released by companies whose bottom line and profits can be damaged by people changing to Organic foods.

Think about it - Many companies would lose significant profits if everyone suddenly switched to organic foods. Those companies are scared that they will go out of business or lose a serious amount of profit if people realize how bad the foods they are selling are and how many "cost cutting" exercises they take and risks they take by adding many cheaper chemicals flavors to foods instead of genuine flavors.

It's in those companies best interest for us to second guess the organics thing. I say to you that you should make up your own mind - in doing so read as much information as you can but be sure to read UNBIASED and impartial 3rd parties opinions about organics. (Much like I have used to help me write my book & I'll give you links to interesting articles throughout it.)

You'll find most "studies" which put a doubt over the value of organics have been funded by big corporations who have vested interest in non organic farming & chemical production. (Anything that is "brought to you by..." or "Sponsored by..." or mentions a lot of one particular brand and recommends them or generally have a very one sided opinion means it has been paid for by that company, which also means they are only going to release the information that makes them look good.)

Also, just think about this - Poisons such as Cigarettes, Lead Paint and Asbestos were all once considered completely safe - We (and governments) woke up to the realities of those products, so let yourself be ahead of the pack by realizing pesticides and chemical additives (among other things) are just as bad as the above dangerous carcinogens.

So, that's my opinion in a nutshell (which has been formed after a lifetime of reading and more recently of years & months of research) that organic food is better for your baby because it doesn't have all the scary ingredients that plague most of the foods we eat. - And I know you believe that too or you wouldn't have been interested in this article!

Natural Little one Foods - Will it Support your baby With Allergies?

Shortly after adopting our three week old son it became evident that he was having a problem holding down almost everything that he was fed. His skin was also getting small bumps over most areas of his body. When he was about 4 months old he started to itch and scratch affected areas until they would bleed. He would even pull out his hair in areas of his head that itched. Eventually we found the only way to stop severe scratching and hair pulling was to cover his hands with athletic socks and tape them to his arms so that he could not remove them. This problem persisted for months. After many visits with his pediatrician and several specialists it seemed that every suggestion we tried did not work. Eventually one of the doctors suggested that we look at switching to organic baby food.

Our son was too young to undergo the conventional method of allergy testing, but this doctor suspected that our child was probably having an adverse reaction to some of the chemicals that may be present in non-organic foods. We discovered that non-organically grown foods could possibly contain residue from the pesticides and chemicals used in the growing process. Further more growth hormone and other chemicals could be present in non-organically raised meat products.

ORGANIC BABY FOOD

We decided to switch to organic baby food and organic rice milk. This decision was really a no-brainer for us, but we lived in a small town and were concerned that finding organic baby food would present a problem.

Natural Little one Foods - Will it Support your baby With Allergies?

I originally thought that we were going to have to make special trips to a health food store that was over 30 miles away to find organic baby food for our son. This wasn't a big problem but it would be a bit of an inconvenience considering our busy schedules.

Fortunately, we found organic baby food and rice milk in our local grocery store. Even more surprising, we discovered that there were many organic baby food choices. Our son made the switch with ease and he seemed to enjoy the organic rice milk as well.

The organic baby food did not completely stop the digestion and skin problems but it did help. The problems continued but not every meal, not even every day. Through trial and good record keeping we started to realize that the problems would occur after eating certain types of foods.

When our son was almost three, his doctor decided that he should undergo the allergy testing regiment. This test would in-tale pricking his back with about 40 needles that were coated with different food and chemical samples. Any of the needle pricked areas that became inflamed (similar to a mosquito bite) would indicate that our son was allergic to the substance from that needle.

About half way through the test our son began screaming that he couldn't breath and he thought he was going to die. In fact he was going into respiratory distress and within minutes the testing was stopped and my wife and I were rushed out of the room.

We later learned that he was so allergic to some of the samples that instead of the area around each needle prick swelling to the size of a mosquito bite if there were an allergic reaction, our sons entire back had become one giant continuous welt. The doctor's office staff had become so concerned about his condition that they were just minutes away from calling an Aero-Med Helicopter to take our son to the hospital.

The staff did get things under control and no helicopter flight was needed. Eventually the doctor discovered that our son was allergic to many foods including whole grain bread and pasta, all dairy foods and most meats, all fish and shell fish, he is even allergic to soy products. Also almost every type of scented soap, shampoo, laundry detergent, lotion and all house hold pets and cleaning products. We are told that the probable allergic reaction to fish or peanuts would be death.

Our son's diet is very limited but he can consume beef, chicken and turkey. He can also eat most fruits and many vegetables. Breakfast cereal, all snacks and milk must be of a rice base. He is now 9 years old and is sad about all the restrictions on his diet, but he handles it well.

We are so thankful that before we knew the full extent of the problem that we were led to try the organic baby food and rice milk. We believe that omitting the chemicals really helped reduce the intensity of the allergic reactions. Thankfully we picked mostly fruit and vegetable based foods along with the rice milk, (the only type of milk that he can drink to this day), this surely kept a bad situation from becoming a tragedy.

Why Organic?

earths-best-ingredientsChoosing organic is choosing to live a healthier life. Organic foods are produced without the use of potentially harmful chemicals and synthetic pesticides or growth hormones. This is even more important when we consider infants. For four to six months following birth, infants receive most of their nutrition from breast milk or infant formula. It is so important that these formulas contain the safest ingredients.

If ingested, potential toxic chemicals or heavy metals can lead to compromised immune system development. Likewise, young infants consume disproportionately high levels of fruits and vegetables when compared to adults. This increases their risk of exposure to potential contaminants found among non-organic products. Finally, Earth's Best products do not contain genetically engineered ingredients (GEIs), made by inserting genes from one plant into a strain of another to produce more crops or control pests.

Why organic? It is better for you, your child and the environment they will grow up in.
